The New America Coalition Listening Tour is a structured engagement strategy designed to build durable civic capacity in communities that are critical to democratic participation yet historically underrepresented in public decision-making. The tour operates on a simple premise: effective civic engagement begins with listening, trust-building, and authentic relationship development.
Over the course of three months, the tour will convene community members across ten battleground locations along the Eastern Seaboard. Each stop is anchored by a facilitated listening session that surfaces community-defined priorities, barriers  to participation, and opportunities for collective action. These insights are systematically captured and analyzed to inform future programming, advocacy strategies, and leadership development efforts.
Embedded within each event is Our Stories, an opt-in storytelling component that allows participants to record their lived experiences in their own words. This element strengthens the listening process by preserving community narratives, elevating authentic voices, and identifying individuals with the capacity and credibility to serve as local civic leaders.

By integrating listening, storytelling, leadership identification, and nonpartisan voter registration into a single engagement framework, the New America Coalition Listening Tour creates a measurable and repeatable model for civic engagement. The initiative is designed to generate both immediate outcomes—such as voter registration and leadership recruitment—and long-term impact through sustained community partnerships and strengthened democratic infrastructure.
